James Taylor

James Taylor is a white acclaimed singer-songwriter. Born in Boston in 1948, he moved to the Morgan Creek neighborhood of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his family as a young child. Taylor spent his formative years in Chapel Hill, attended local schools, and played music with his siblings and friends. In 1968, he released his self-titled debut album, which included the track “Carolina in My Mind,” a song in which Taylor pays homage to his childhood in Chapel Hill and to North Carolina. His second studio album, Sweet Baby James, released in 1970, brought Taylor wide fame and success, paving the way for many more albums, as well as for numerous awards and accolades, over the course of his storied music career. In 2003, a bridge crossing over Morgan Creek in Chapel Hill was dedicated and named the James Taylor Bridge in his honor.
